About Guesthouse Hof
Guesthouse Hof is an acommodation comprising apartments and standalone cabins. Offering accommodation for 2 people per cabin and many more for the apartments, it sits on a desolate, very windswept coast. It advertises itself as having WiFi for all accommodation and hot tubs for the apartments. It also says that:
Popular activities in the area include nature sightseeing and hiking.
Location
Guesthouse Hof sits on the southern coast of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula about halfway from the end. It overlooks a black sand beach – most beaches in Iceland are made up of black sand due to historic volcanic eruptions – and also offers beautiful views of the mountain range that goes all the way up and down the peninsula. On a clear day, you can also see Snæfellsjökull – the dormant volcano with a glacier on top of it!

About the Room
The room we had was 2/3rds of a cabin for two people. This is known as a double room with two single beds that could be pushed together, rather than the bunk beds of the other type of room. Since there were 4 of us travelling, we had 2 of these types of rooms.
The rooms had an entrance area with a small desk, the bedroom area with the two beds, a small table and two chairs, and the bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower.
The room also came with a kettle, two mugs, and two cups.
The good
The cabins had excellent insulation. We stayed here two nights and it was cold for each of them. However we never felt that way since the cabins were warm and toasty the entire time.
The shower also had very hot water and very good water pressure. You could set the shower, get in immediately, and have a nice shower to either wake you up in the morning or relax after a long day.
The bad
The only negative I could find was that the shower drain was partially clogged. I cleaned it out the first night, which helped, but water would still pool at your feet while showering. It would also overflow if you had the water come out at full volume.
That being said, if you ran it at half power after I cleaned it, the water would still pool but not overflow.
Another negative point was that there was some mould in the grout in the shower. This however was only a very small amount and a simple clean would get rid of it.
Depending on if you want to stay connected to the internet, we also had difficulty with limited signal in both of the cabins that we rented. While it did not bother us except for momentary inconveniences, someone looking to explore the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and still work online may have issues.
What I did while there
Here are some things to do in the area:
Verdict
Overall I enjoyed our stay at Guesthouse Hoff and I would go back if I were visiting the Snæfellsnes Peninsula again.

Don’t forget the seal beach. It was extremely windy with sand blowing.
