About HOTEL
The Guesthouse by the Fjord
Location
The Guesthouse by the Fjord is located in Þingeyri, a small fishing village in the Westfjords of Iceland. It sits on the edge of Dýrafjörður (the fjord) offering views both out to see and further inland. The majority of the people here are connected with the fishing industry; there is a small fishing port that usually has a couple of boats moored during the day.
To the east of the village is a seal colony, which you can read more about here.
Þingeyri is about 45 minutes to Ísafjörður, the main town in the Westfjords via Route 60 – the main road that navigates the Westfjord region.

Here are a couple of pictures I took of the room:
About the space
The room I stayed in was a large ground floor apartment-style accommodation with parking directly outside of the front door. When you enter, you have a large bathroom that is also a wetroom directly across from the main door. To the right was a social area combined with a kitchen and kitchen table. The kitchen was equipped with a multi-hob stove, sink, cabinet space, counter tops, and almost everything you would think that is typical in a European kitchen with the exception of a stove. There were also appliances such as a fridge, toaster, microwave, etc. Again, the ones that are considered standard for a European kitchen.
Through the kitchen was a bedroom that spanned the entire width of the space and had two single beds in it.
There were also outdoor spaces (a small garden, a terrace with chairs and tables, etc.) but we were unable to use them due to the weather.
The good
The space was very large for two people and everything seemed to work well in the kitchen. As the saying goes, it would have been extremely easy to swing several cats simultaneously here.
The beds were also very comfortable with decent pillows provided as well.
The bad
As there were very few windows, there is not much natural light. This is compounded by the bathroom being on the outer edge of the building and the living room/kitchen and bedrooms being against an internal wall, so the only windows are at either end of the space. This was our main complaint.
Other small inconveniences were the shower, which had excellent water pressure and temperature, but the drain did not drain the water faster than it came out, so you ended up in standing water. Additionally there was a small blue barrier that was supposed to stop the water from leaving the shower portion of the wetroom but that was quickly overrun.
Also the few electrical outlets were in somewhat odd places in the bedroom with the current configuration of the beds.
What I did while there
Here are some things to do in the area:
Verdict
I would definitely stay at The Guesthouse by the Fjord again if I go back to Þingeyri or I am in the area again.
