About Vestri Pétursey
Vestri Pétursey is a collection of four holiday cabins near Pétursey mountain in southern Iceland. Each features two bedrooms along with a small living/dining area with functional kitchen, a porch and parking.
Vestri Pétursey is run by an older couple who live at, own and run the farm next door to the four cabins.
Location
Vestri Pétursey is approximately 14 km from the Dyrhólaey peninsula and within 15 minutes’ drive of Vík village. It is also a good base for exploring the southern and southeastern coasts of Iceland; Diamond Beach and Jökulsárlón are about 2.5 hours away by car, which makes a day trip possible from this location.
This area is also not built up at all and there are a lot of options for getting into nature. These include the nearby coasts and beaches, cross-country hiking or head north towards Iceland’s highlands for mountains, valleys and glaciers.

About the space
The cabins at Vestri Pétursey feature two bedrooms each (ours had a room with a double bed and one with two singles), kitchen with combined dining/living area and a porch for enjoying the scenery. The cabin was fully equipped for staying overnight, the kitchen had pots, pans, cutlery, small fridge, and everything you would expect for a basic holiday let.
The good
I think Vestri Pétursey was the most comfortable place that we stayed in Iceland. The cabins were very warm with excellent insulation, walls of windows let in the natural light (with excellent blinds to stop this if it is not desired), and the beds were very comfortable. The cabin was also very clean and modern, the WiFi was strong, and we had no complaints.
The bad
This next point is not necessarily bad per se but could be difficult depending on your situation: you need to call the property owners when you arrive. They will then let you into your cabin. However if you do not have a working mobile telephone (depending on where you are from in the world, you may not mobile reception – or want to pay for it – in Iceland).
What I did while there

Verdict
I would definitely stay here again if I were in the area around Vík. The cabin and views were definitely worth the price!
