About Kyoto Tower Hotel

Situated right in front of Kyoto Station, Kyoto Tower Hotel is a four-star hotel that stands in a central location convenient for touring Kyoto. As the name suggests, it is located in Kyoto Tower and has a special door to access the hotel, which sits approximately halfway up the tower on several floors.

You can also directly access most floors within the tower using one of many elevators, although not all elevators go to all floors. There was direct access to the observation platform at the top and those staying in the hotel got a slight reduction in the price of the ticket. There is also a food hall in the bottom of the tower. All options were reasonably/fairly priced and there was a wide range of food – I would say something for everyone.

I found this hotel on booking.com. Here is the direct link to the Kyoto Tower Hotel.

Location

Being right in front of Kyoto Station has many perks. Not only is this the major transport hub in Kyoto, it also has local, regional, and high-speed rail links. It also has a direct, high-speed link to Kansai International Airport, meaning that all of Japan is your oyster and many destinations in eastern Asia are reachable in only a few hours.

Buses can take you to any place that you would like to visit in Kyoto, from Gion to Arashiyama and everything in between. Even better, all of this can be accessed directly from the basement level of the tower – no need to go outside if the weather is not cooperating!

Additionally central Kyoto has many places to visit, such as Higashi Hongan-ji and Shoseien Garden. There are also a lot of restaurants, convenience stores and everything you need to make the journey the best it can be.

There is a restaurant, a cafe/bar with city views at the hotel.

Guests will find a tourist information centre with a prayer room that offers currency exchange and tour reservations services in the hotel building. There is also a kimono rental shop in the building.

There is a large electronic store, a pharmacy, a convenience store and a supermarket within walking distance from the property. Notable attractions in the area also include the To-ji Temple and Higashi-Hongan-ji Temple. The Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine can be accessed in 10-minutes via train and walk.

Kyoto Tower Hotel: the good

Great hotel in an excellent location. Easy to get everywhere. However, the beds are very hard.

The hotel is extremely centrally located across from Kyoto Station. This is where the buses and trains for most of Kyoto travel to/from. There are also lots of restaurants and shops nearby. The individual rooms include a double bed.

Kyoto Tower Hotel: the bad

I found the bed to be very hard. I prefer a soft bed, so sometimes it was difficult to sleep. Also, the pillows were very thin. As someone who sleeps on my side, it wasn’t easy to get into a comfortable position due to these two factors.

What I did while there

I stayed here for 9 days/8 nights and I had an amazing time! Over the course of a week, I was able to do so much because of how conveniently the Kyoto Tower Hotel was located. Here is a quick list of some of the things I have done in Kyoto:

Verdict

While I do not usually choose 4-star hotels to stay in, I got an excellent deal because of the time when I went – just after Japan lifted pandemic restrictions. Japan’s government also had a scheme where they would pay for a percentage of your stay to promote tourism and getting people back into the swing of travelling again. That combined with a deal that Kyoto Tower Hotel was running and I was able to get this a double room at an extremely reasonable rate for a 4-star hotel.

I would stay here again just for the convenience as long as the price is not exorbitant. While there are many hotels in Kyoto, none of them are as convenient as being in the very centre across from the train station. There was no where that was difficult to get to.
