About Angel Hotel
The Angel Hotel in Cardiff City Centre is a well-established hotel with 102 guestrooms, event spaces, meeting rooms, a restaurant, a café and conference space.
The original hotel dates back to 1666 when the original coaching inn was built for mail coaches to serve Cardiff. The current building is a Victorian-era one from 1883 and has hosted distinguished people, such as the Beatles and Marlene Dietrich, and served as the US Navy’s headquarters during World War 1.
Note that Angel Hotel does not have a lift/elevator.
Location
Angel Hotel is located in Cardiff City Centre across from Cardiff Castle and Bute Park. You can walk to anywhere in the City Centre in less than 10 minutes, including Cardiff Central Station, which marks the southern (and farthest – from the Angel Hotel) boundary. You can also cross the street directly into Bute Park and Sophia Gardens.

About the Room
I booked a standard double for two nights while I was searching for apartments to rent in Cardiff. I was expecting a typical hotel-room like setup and size. While the setup was standard, the size was definitely much larger than expected. To coin a phrase, you could swing not just one, but many cats in this room.
The room comes with an electric kettle, two mugs and spoons, tea, coffee, a bath/shower, desk, phone, iron/ironing board, radiator heating, and a crib available on request.
There is also WiFi throughout the hotel. Housekeeping is available on request.

The good
The size and price were definitely the highlights of this room. The room was very spacious, the desk was a good size, and there was more than enough space for guests staying a couple of nights in this hotel room.
The bad
Unfortunately there was only one, older radiator in the hotel room. While this may usually be fine, when I stayed there were record cold temperatures in Cardiff, so the room was chilly even with the radiator fully on.
The other thing was the mattress; it was an old spring bed. As I am the titular character from The Princess and the Pea (all of the back sensitivities included!), I did not sleep well either of the two nights that I stayed as I am not used to sleeping on mattresses with springs.
What I did while there
I was searching for an apartment to sent (i.e. “flat hunting”) during my time in Cardiff. However here are some things to do in the south Wales area:
Verdict
I think I would stay at the Angel Hotel again if I had the option. While I did not like the beds, that is standard for me at most hotels. The price of £35 per night was lower than the Holiday Inn next door, the location was great, and checking in and out was quick and convenient.
