About Morioka New City Hotel
Morioka New City Hotel is part of a small chain that is consistently named “[City] New City Hotel.” Other New City Hotels are in Aomori, Akita, Sendai, Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. It offers single, double, twin, and family-sized rooms.
In addition to the rooms (more on that below), they also offer shared spaces for everyone to use. Morioka has a dining area for breakfast, a café-style seating area in a separate location with microwaves, and a nook for coin laundry machines. In Morioka, these are combined washer/dryer units.
Location
Morioka New City Hotel is located one street west of the central train station in Morioka. It is across the river from the downtown area, where festivals like the Sansa Odori (the World’s Biggest Taiko Drumming Festival) take place. It is easy to walk this part of Morioka from the hotel, as much of it is designed for pedestrians.
The train station is also connected to the Shinkansen tracks and the local and national bus networks. It has a taxi stand out front and several car rental places, so you can easily (but not necessarily quickly) get to wherever you want!
This area also has a lot of restaurants and shops so you can try some local and international cuisines.

About the room
I rented a single room, approximately 10 m² (107 sq. ft. – a standard size for Japan). It had the standard furniture: a double bed, desk, mirror, bathroom, etc. The bathroom was smaller than in other hotels where I had stayed during my time in Japan, which also means that the bathtub was smaller.
The bathroom seemed to be the oldest part of the room (although the decoration was not far behind). One minor issue was that the toilet in my room did not have a good flush, so sometimes I needed to try a few times. If not everything was flushed entirely and I did not realise, sometimes I would enter, and there would be a smell. I noticed in other reviews that other people had this issue, so it was not limited to just my room, which should be renovated when possible.
My review on Agoda
Here is my review on Agoda.com:
Morioka New City Hotel is an older business hotel one street west (towards the city centre) from the main train station. The rooms and facilities were clean. The hotel seemed a bit older but parts had been renovated, such as the breakfast area and the lounge near the front door. When I was there there was some work near the lobby to replace something there. The walls are thin, so you can hear your neighbours if they are making louder noises. I recommend having earplugs if you are sensitive to noise. The staff were friendly, and the matching Hawaiian shirt outfits were an interesting touch! The room was standard size for a business hotel and comfortable with the standard amenities.

Verdict
I would stay at another New City Hotel in the future. It was a pleasant experience. It was well-located and had good value for money. With some renovations, it would be a place that I would look out for in the cities mentioned above.
