Kaze no Garden (Wind Garden): Site of a famous TV show (Hokkaido, Japan)

Located on the island of Hokkaido in the well-known town of Furano, which features attractions such as Panorama Road, Lavender Fields and Farm Tomita, also boasts another famous garden that was the setting of a famous television show in Japan. Sharing the same name as the show, Kaze no Garden (or Wind Garden), is an excellent place to see flowers of Hokkaido and Japan while escaping crowds.

The TV show of the same name follows a doctor who is on palliative care after losing a battle with cancer. During his last days he returns to Furano to make up with his estranged family. For the show an English-style garden (which is how the Japanese refer to a garden with multiple types of flowers) was created in the town of Furano. The show aired from October to December 2008 and is a well-known drama still referenced in Japan today.

The garden has three distinct sections: the main garden, which features a wide range of flowering plants, the rose garden, and the Wildflower Walk, which is an open wild meadow-like area.

Below is the blooming schedule for the Wildflower Walk each year:

May to JuneJuly to AugustSeptember to October
Pulmonaria
Tulips
Western columbine
Lupine
Allium
Campanula
Verbascum
Monarda
Echinacea
Phlox
Sakshisa
Rudbeckia
Aster
Helenium
Kimiki Fuga

Today Kaze no Garden is owned by the New Prince Hotel; the garden is accessible via a shuttle bus from the grounds reception and deposit you at the main garden. It is open to the public from late April to mid October each year from 8:00 until 16:00 or 17:00, depending on the exact date. Adult tickets cost ¥1,000 ($6.40 USD, £4.84 GBP, €5.52 as of December 2025) for entry.

Here is a video I took on 14 July 2024 walking around the different sections of the garden:
