About Hotel Sankyo Fukushima
Hotel Sankyo Fukushima has an upscale style in central Fukushima City. It is part of the SK Hotel Group, and its perks include its central location, great price-to-value ratio, and excellent customer service.
A big part of the pull of Hotel Sankyo Fukushima is its breakfast buffet, which is usually included in the room’s price (although there are more basic plans without breakfast included). They are served in the restaurant on the second floor, featuring a wide range of Japanese foods and a more limited range of Western foods. During the peach season, one of its buffet tables contains nothing but peach items – including the fruit itself, peach yoghurts, peach drinks, and even peach pizza!
Location
Located in Omachi, a central district just slightly east of Fukushima Station, Hotel Sankyo Fukushima is well connected to local and regional sightseeing opportunities as well as long-distance ones via the Shinkansen, making it a good base of operations for those with a little more time. With a major bus stop just outside the hotel and within walking distance (less than 10 minutes) of Fukushima Station, a transport hub for trains, local buses and long-distance coach buses, it is very conveniently located.
Omachi is also a primarily pedestrian district, so walking around this part of the city is easy. This was set up after the 2011 earthquake caused significant damage. Rather than rebuilding the narrow roads and causing traffic congestion, normal streets were converted to pedestrian ones with limited or no car access.

About the room
I booked a standard single room—the smallest and cheapest available. There was also a deal for over 50% off, so I paid ¥ $31,500, which, at the current conversion rate (September 2024) at the time, was $223.65 USD or £170.43 GBP for seven days. This also included breakfast.
Their website lists the following information for the room:
Room Size: 15.0m2
Bed: 1/1,200mm×2,100mm
Capacity: 1
Facilities / Amenities: Paid video, refrigerator (empty), air purifier with humidifier, portable multi-charger, electric kettle, hairdryer, nightwear, shoehorn, baggage rack, toilet with bidet, bath towel, face towel, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, face and hand soapSimmons beds and Tempur pillows ensure a comfortable night’s sleep.
Available for business, leisure, and various other purposes.
New towels and toiletries are provided daily, and the cleaning staff will also clean the room daily if you would like. Otherwise, you can put a “do not disturb” sign out, and the cleaning staff will put your towels and toiletries, including a bottle of water, in a bag on your door.
The good
Here is what I said on Booking.com:
Hotel Sankyo turned out to be a lot better than I was expecting! I got a deal on the room for more than 50% off too. It is very centrally located (less than 10 minutes walking from the central station) in Omachi, one of the central districts in Fukushima. It is well connected to just about everywhere in the city through trains and buses. The area it is in is mostly pedestrian as well.
On top of its location, the hotel feels almost new. Some other reviews said it was tired and worn out, so it has probably had a renovation recently. The breakfast was also superb, featuring a wide variety of Japanese food and a selection of western cuisine. There was even an entire buffet table just for peaches and peach-flavoured items (fruit, yoghurt, even pizza!) during the summer and early autumn months – coinciding with Fukushima’s peach season.
The room (I was in a standard single) was very comfortable and spacious. I had enough room for a suitcase and hiking backpack and could still comfortably do cartwheels (if I had wanted to). There are also many amenities provided.
The bad
Here is what I said on Booking.com:
There was nothing not to like, although perhaps soundproofing could be better. A friend of mine stayed in a different hotel room on the road-facing side of the hotel (the front) near the laundry machines. Traffic noises and someone deciding to do laundry around midnight kept them up at night. I was on the courtyard side, though, so I heard nothing if the window was closed.

Verdict
I had an excellent stay at Hotel Sankyo Fukushima, and I will definitely stay here again. It was comfortable, quiet and well located, all for an amazing price. 10/10 one of the best hotel stays in Japan I have had.
