Hotel Premium Green Plus: Eco-friendly Stay in Sendai (Japan)

About Hotel Premium Green Plus

Hotel Premium Green Plus is part of the Hotel Green chain, a local Sendai chain focusing on eco-friendliness. There are twelve Hotel Greens in Sendai: Hills, Plus, Well, Mark, Selec, Pacific, Park, Green Sovereign, Arbor, Line, Palace, and City.

These hotels are primarily clustered in Aoba Ward, just west of the central train station – Sendai Station.

Location

Hotel Premium Green Plus is located on Clis Road, a covered arcade-style street with many local, national and international stores. Directly around the hotel are also many restaurants, bars, izakayas (Japanese pubs), and cafés. This area is entirely pedestrian and lively, so you are already in the city’s heart simply by walking out of the hotel.

Public transport to reach near and far destinations is also straightforward. The central station is a hub for trains, buses, and the metro. Walking takes about 5 minutes (including waiting for one traffic light), so it is straightforward and convenient.

About the Room

I booked a single, non-smoking room under the eco-friendly option. The room had a washlet/bidet toilet, shower, television (Satellite broadcasts/ pay broadcasts), telephone (extension only), electric kettle, refrigerator (turn on the switch when you use), hair dryer, towels (bath towels, face towels, hand towels), room slippers, and yukata – as do most similar hotels.

Cleaning was done once every three days (the legal minimum requirement in Japan) when the towels were changed. As part of the eco plan, the bedsheets were not changed during this time.

The room felt slightly larger than equivalent Japanese business hotels. There was more space for my luggage, including a nook where I could put my larger suitcase and leave it without it being in the way.

The good

Here is what I said on Booking.com:

The room was comfortable for one person. It had everything standard in a business hotel. It was also lovely to see an eco-friendly hotel in Japan (at least on the surface, but most are not). The room was clean and comfortable, and the location on Clis Road near the station was excellent.

The bad

Here is what I said on Booking.com:

The hotel’s lobby is on the second floor, up a flight of stairs. A lift/elevator goes up from the ground floor (a real estate agent’s), but I did not know that when I arrived, so I carried my luggage up the stairs. If you contact them in advance (the intercom is hidden), they can take you up in the lift, which requires a staff key to get to the ground floor.

Response to my review

What I did while there

Verdict

I would stay at another Hotel Green Hotel, as it is the right combination of price and quality, and the location is excellent. This is my second time staying at one. I stayed in the Selec my first time in Sendai, which I did not realise was part of the same chain when booking this one.
